Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that can cause serious health problems if it is not treated.

Benton and Franklin Counties are faced with increasing syphilis rates across most demographics.  There are continued high rates among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men, as well as a sudden surge of syphilis among women, leading to an increased risk of congenital syphilis causing serious complications in pregnancy.

You should get tested regularly if you are pregnant, are a man who has sex with men, have an HIV infection, and/or have a partner who tested positive for syphilis.
