2025-26 Agriculture Respiratory Campaign
In the fall of 2024, the Benton-Franklin Health District (BFHD) Immunization Program
received crucial funding through the State Department of Health. This funding was
dedicated to supporting targeted education and raising awareness about the importance
of flu vaccinations during the respiratory illness season within the agriculture
communities. With the funding, extended through the end of June 2025, the BFHD team
was able to broaden its reach and take a more innovative approach to community
engagement.
Juan Gutierrez, Clinic Manager at Benton Franklin Health District, “Agricultural workers are
active throughout our seasons. The fall brings with it harvest and a flurry of respiratory
illness. Due to the likelihood of transmission in group settings, individuals working in these
communities may be disproportionately impacted by fall respiratory diseases. Combined
with the relative scarcity of linguistically appropriate preventative health education, we
sought to utilize the awarded funds to reach out to the agricultural community and provide
resources and health promotion”.
One of the standout efforts this year is a new social media campaign specifically designed
to reach one of the most essential, yet often underserved, groups in our region—
agricultural workers. To ensure the message resonates, BFHD partnered with Prop co, a
professional graphic design and media company, to develop agriculture-focused media
content, including eye-catching graphics and educational videos. These assets have been
carefully tailored to reflect the people, landscapes, and culture of Benton and Franklin
County’s agricultural communities, ensuring that the messaging feels authentic and
relatable.
The awareness campaign will launch across multiple channels, including social media
platforms, local healthcare providers’ offices, and directly through agricultural
organizations that serve thousands of workers. The overall goal is to provide workers and
their families with easy-to-understand education and accessible resources that promote
flu vaccination and respiratory health.
BFHD’s intended goal is simple yet impactful: to help agricultural workers stay healthy and
strong throughout the respiratory season. By reducing barriers to information and
vaccination, this campaign highlights BFHD’s commitment to protecting all members of
our community—especially those who play a critical role in feeding our region and beyond.
Be on the lookout this respiratory season September through January for these images out
in the community. If you or someone you know is in need of an Influenza, Covid-19, RSV or
Tdap vaccine. Please reach out to your doctor first or feel free to call the health district at
509-460-4200.
