The Benton-Franklin Health District’s School Environmental Health & Safety Program is gearing up for another productive year! During the 2025–2026 school year, our Environmental Health Specialists will continue conducting comprehensive inspections in all public and private K–12 school facilities across Benton and Franklin counties.
These on-site reviews ensure that each school complies with the state health and safety standards outlined in Washington Administrative Code (WAC) Chapter 246-366. Our mission is to help every student and staff member thrive in a safe, healthy learning environment.
By identifying and addressing issues such as ventilation, indoor air quality, chemical storage, and playground safety, we work to reduce environmental health risks and promote overall well-being in our schools.
This year marks the start of our new three-year full inspection cycle:
-
Year 1 (2025–2026): Indoor Air Quality
Our primary focus this school year will be indoor air quality in primary (K–5) schools, emphasizing proper ventilation, moisture control, and pollutant prevention to promote healthy classrooms and learning spaces.
- Year 2 (2026–2027): Remediation
Addressing identified issues and ensuring corrective actions are implemented to maintain compliance and improve overall school safety.
- Year 3 (2027–2028): Re-Inspection
Verifying improvements and maintaining compliance with state health and safety standards outlined in WAC 246-366.
Through this ongoing cycle, the Benton-Franklin Health District remains committed to fostering safe, healthy, and supportive school environments for every student and staff member.
