Healthy Aging involves developing and maintaining a level of physical, mental, and cognitive health with a focus on creating environments and opportunities that enable us to be and do what we value throughout our entire life course.
Routine medical care, chronic disease prevention and management, nutrition, physical activity, and adequate rest are all examples of the many elements that impact health throughout our lives.
Our built and social environments also play important roles in impacting our health as we age. Other social determinants of health such as economic stability, community, education, and access to health care play key roles in each individual's own experience.
Benton Franklin Health District is recognized as an Age-Friendly Public Health System and strives to support the residents of our counties in not only the quantity, but the quality of each year lived. Our communities are enriched when they can be safely accessed and enjoyed by residents of all ages in environments where we can learn from one another.
If you are looking for ways to be involved, you are welcome to participate in the Safe and Healthy Aging Coalition. Meetings are held virtually on the 4th Monday of each month from 3:00-4:00 pm. To learn about how to combat Ageism, please visit the National Center to Reframe Aging.
