Fifth Disease is caused by Parvovirus B19. It is spread by respiratory secretions such as saliva or nasal mucus from when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Fifth disease can also spread through blood and from a pregnant woman to her baby. This virus only infects humans. The disease primarily affects children, but adults can also be infected as well. Fifth disease presents itself as a mild rash. Other severe symptoms such as painful or swollen joints and severe anemia are less common. While there is no vaccine or medicine that can prevent fifth disease, washing your hands often, covering your mouth when you sneeze or cough, and staying home when you are sick  can lower your chance of becoming infected with Parvovirus B19.
