Halloween Safety Tips For the Whole Family
Posted on 10/27/2023

Our Safe Kids Benton-Franklin team has a list of safety tips for our cute ghosts and goblins this Halloween:

Craft a Safe Costume:

    • Choose a costume that fits just right, so no one trips and falls.
    •  Make your outfits shine with reflective tape or stickers.
    •  Pick out light-colored clothing to stay visible and ditch those spooky masks that hide your vision.
  •

Guidelines for Ghostly Adventures Beyond Home:
For the Kiddos:

    • Arm your little witches and wizards with glow sticks or flashlights to see and be seen.
    •  Cross streets at corners, follow traffic signals, and check left, right, and left again.
    •  Keep your heads up, say no to screens, and walk cautiously across the road.
    •  Beware of cars, especially those sneaky ones that turn or back up. Stay clear of parked cars, driveways, and alleys.
  •

For the Drivers:

    • Drive like you're on a candy hunt - be super vigilant.
    • Slow down in residential areas; the prime trick-or-treating hours are from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
    •  Banish distractions in your car; no spooky phone chats or snack gobbling.

Ghost-Proof Your Spooky House:

    • Illuminate your jack-o'-lanterns with glow sticks instead of candles.
    •  Keep decorations far from open flames, bulbs, and heaters.
    •  Double-check your smoke alarms - better safe than sorry.
    •  Safeguard cleaning supplies from little trick-or-treaters and save the Poison Help number (1-800-222-1222) in your phone.

Bonus Candy Safety Tips:

    • Examine your candy loot before enjoying candy and toss anything suspicious.
    •  Avoid homemade treats from strangers; stick to factory-sealed goodies.
    • Moderation is the magic spell: don't gobble all your candy in one night.

Have a safe and happy Halloween!
